Make sure that you are working in a well-lit area. If light is a little scarce where you are working you might want to consider some halogen lights that can be mounted on a stand and taken off for easy placement in your work area. This might seem like a small thing, but any type of tray to organize all the pieces, screws, nuts, bolts, etc will be a big help for keeping track of anything you might take off or out of your car.
